Requesting Credentials and pre-game preparation:
- Text with the person who is writing the gamer to set up who is email the SID for credentials
- Wear nice clothes, no michigan gear
- Research the team you’re covering and their tendencies (strong defense, good player, lots of assists)
- Get a good grasp of who is who and what’s important for the team
What is a sidebar?
- A sidebar is taking a part of the game that had a huge impact on the outcome and examining it in more detail. Examples:
- Hockey won 1-0, with Strauss Mann making 33 saves. You might write a sidebar about Strauss Mann and how he kept them in the game
- Natalie Wojcik scored a 10.00 on the vault. What was her routine, what went right on the routine, etc.
- Women’s basketball won 98-86, shooting 40% from 3-point range. Who shot well, how did that help the team win, what impact did that have on the game
- Mason Parris beats the No. 1 wrestler in the country as Michigan falls to Minnesota. That’s still a big deal, what was that match like, how did he beat the wrestler
- Men’s soccer lost 4-3, Why was the defense so leaky? What caused them to struggle and how did it affect their offense?
