Important Resources Explained:
- The Daily Arts Handbook → Created by Dylan Yono (Summer SAE '19, U-M '21), the Arts Handbook is the go-to authority on anything Daily Arts. Any and all internal processes are codified in the handbook and it is updated every semester.
- General Processes:
- How a piece moves through tMD → Created by Elizabeth Yoon (Books U-M '23), Details how the edit process works as of Fall 2021. Please note: Unfortunately, pieces cannot be edited after publication unless they are factually or grammatically incorrect.
- Specific but non-exhaustive grounds and process for removal from the Arts Section
- Daily Arts Contact Sheet → Created and updated each semester with all the contact information of everyone on Daily Arts (their name, uniqname, phone #, beat, position, etc.).

- Daily Arts Anonymous Reporting Form and Virtual Suggestion Box → Created by Lillian Pearce (‘23) and Sabriya Imami (‘23), this form is modeled after the form created by the Culture, Training and Inclusion chairs. It offers a space where writers can specifically contact MAEs about issues they are facing, frustrations and worries they are dealing with, or suggestions they have. The goal of the form is to better both our community and content.
FOR WRITERS:
- Finding an image to accompany your article → created by Elise Godfryd and Zoe Phillips (U-M '22 and '21 respectively), Consult for guidelines and advice to lawfully obtain a great image to accompany an article.
- Adobe Express (previously branded Adobe Spark, link) → An easy way to format images for Books articles. Usually left to the Books Beat Editor to produce. Follow guidelines within the Daily Arts visual style guide when creating graphics.
- How to reach out to authors for an interview [presentation]→ created by Trina Pal (Books U-M '21), Consult for tips on how to conduct interviews with writers, who to reach out to, what questions to ask, etc.
- Conflict of Interest Flow Chart → created by Zoe Phillips (CC U-M '21), Consult this flowchart to see Arts' policies regarding event coverage (current as of Winter 2020).
- How to write Arts content with Journalistic Sensitivity [presentation] → created by A&I (Access and Inclusion, 2020; a section that has since been rebranded) (within the "FOR WRITERS" folder, this is called "A&I Arts Presentation")
